Depending on the species, Lilly Pillies can produce colourful berries ranging from white and pink through to red, purple or magenta. For example, NSW PlantNET describes the fruit of Syzygium smithii as white to purple and approximately 8–20 mm in diameter.

The fruit can be attractive and is part of the plant’s natural cycle, but once it starts falling it can create additional garden maintenance.

This can be particularly noticeable when a Lilly Pilly is growing above:

driveways, paved areas, pathways, decks, swimming pool surrounds or outdoor entertaining areas.

For some homeowners this isn’t a concern. For others, particularly where a large tree overhangs a frequently used area, the berries can become messy.
