Home Trees safely removed invasive pines damaging a retaining wall, including stump grinding and full cleanup.
Home Trees was contacted to remove a row of large Leyland Pine trees in Matraville, New South Wales, after the trees started causing serious structural damage to a retaining wall on the property.
The Leyland Pines had grown very large over the years, and the root system was pushing against the retaining wall, causing visible bending, movement, and cracking throughout the structure. The wall had become unsafe and needed to be rebuilt.
After inspecting the site, Fabiano from Home Trees advised the client that the best long-term solution would be complete tree removal, stump grinding, and replanting with more suitable species for the area.
There were around seven to eight large Leyland Pine trees along the boundary. These trees are fast-growing and can become problematic in residential areas due to their aggressive root systems and large size. In many situations, Leyland Pines are considered invasive and unsuitable for small suburban properties because they:
The retaining wall on this Matraville property had already suffered cracking and structural movement from the pressure created by the trees.
Before the removal day, the Home Trees crew attended the property to carefully prepare the site. Sections of fencing and surrounding materials were temporarily removed to allow safe access for the tree works.
For this project, Home Trees brought in a highly experienced climber along with a full ground crew to complete the works efficiently and safely.
The team worked with professional climbing equipment, wood chippers, large trucks, full safety systems, and qualified ground crew managing all waste and cleanup.
Despite the size of the trees, the entire project was completed in one day thanks to careful planning and an experienced crew.
Around a full truckload of mulch and green waste was removed from the site during the works. All timber, branches, and debris were processed and removed professionally.
Once the trees were removed, Home Trees completed full stump grinding to clear the area completely and prepare the ground for the next stage of the project.
After the tree removal and stump grinding were completed, the site was left clean, level, and ready for the new
retaining wall construction and future replanting.
The client can now safely rebuild the damaged retaining wall and redesign the landscaping with more suitable tree species for the area.
