7 Things you need to know before hiring any Tree Removal, Tree Cutting Services in Canada Bay!

Do I need a council permit to prune or remove my tree?
Yes, for tree work that do not meet the following conditions.
Tree work that can be done without council approval:
- Ring barking, cutting, lopping or removal of trees with a height under four (4) metres
- Ring barking, cutting, lopping or removal of trees with a trunk girth under 500mm at its widest point
- Removal of dead trees or branches
Exemptions
- Tree work, such as ring barking, cutting, lopping or removal can be performed on the following trees, as long as the tree is not listed as an Heritage Item in an environmental planning instrument;

| A fruit tree grown for the purposes of fruit or fodder production except Acmena spp (Lilly Pilly), Syzygium spp (Lilly Pilly) or Elaeocarpus spp (Blueberry Ash). | |
- Tree work, such as ring barking, cutting, lopping or removal on a tree that is a declared noxious weed in the local government area of the City of Canada Bay under the Noxious Weed Act 1993.
- Tree work that is limited to the maintenance of a minimum clearance of five hundred (500) millimetres from domestic service leads as specified by Energy Australia, provided that the works were carried out by a qualified or experienced Arborist or Tree surgeon, in accordance with the Australian Standards for the Pruning of Amenity Trees AS 4373-1996.
Who performs tree pruning and cutting?
A qualified arborist, such as provided by Home Tree Services, who holds at least a level 3 certification or equivalent in accordance with AS 4373 – 2007 – Pruning of amenity trees and the Safe Work Australia Code of Practice ‘Guide to Managing Risks of Tree Trimming and Removal Work’ 2016.
What happens when you damage or cut trees that require a permit without one?
Cutting or damaging trees that do not meet the above conditions without a permit will result in penalties in accordance with the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act.
What to do in case you realise a tree has been illegally damaged?
If you have noticed damage done to a tree, such as removal, pruning, poisoning, or vandalism, you can report this to council. You are required to examine the tree and provide details of the type of activity that has been done and at what time. You are also required to provide physical evidence such as photographs to support your claim.
Who removes trees on public land and streets?
The management of trees on public land is the responsibility of the council, therefore any removal or pruning work will be performed by them in adherence with the City of Canada Bay Council Tree Preservation Order Policy.
